Freckleton Band have been crowned North West Regional Champions – 1st Section.
After a 7am rehearsal in the bandroom, the band traveled to the Winter Gardens in Blackpool for the annual regional championships. The band were again drawn to play first in a field of fifteen and the set test-piece was Brass Triumphant by Gareth Wood. By 10 o’clock, our performance was over and would be the benchmark for the rest of the field. Not until mid-afternoon would we know whether the performance had been bettered. As a band we thought we had given a good performance with some excellent contributions from our soloists, but draw number one is notoriously difficult to win from.
Anyway, after an intense and happy couple of weeks’ rehearsals, with the help of some past players and an inspired reading of the score by MD Paul Dalton on the day, the band won and have been invited to the National Finals in Cheltenham later in the year. So well done to Paul, the soloists and players!
