Youth Band Awards 2012

Congratulations to Jen Smith and Matilda Taylor-Proctor in being awarded trophies and medals at the annual Christmas Concert in Lowther Pavilion, Lytham.

Matilda, who has only recently joined the band, won the Players’ Player award. She obviously has made a big impact with the others in such a short period of time!

Jen won the Conductor’s Prize having taken over the ‘end chair’ in September. Conductor, Matt Balson said “Jen’s playing has come on in leaps and bounds this year”.

Au Revoir!

The summer holidays are finally over and for most of us, it’s a case of getting back into the old routines. For two of our cornet players, though, it’s the start of a whole new chapter in life.

Shannon Harper was one of the founder members of the Youth Band in 2010, but just over a year later was also playing in the senior band on the back row. Hugely talented with a great work ethic, Shannon leaves us to take up a place at Chethams School.

Charlotte Roocroft joined us earlier this year from Rivington and Adlington Band and found herself playing a tricky 2nd cornet part at the Grand Shield. We always knew that Charlotte would be leaving us for Huddersfield University, and that time has now come.

So, we’re sad to see you go, ladies, but wish you both the best of luck. Work hard, but more importantly, enjoy the experience and come back and see us when you’re back home.
